The Smart Cube at Work

Typically ...no, there is nothing typical about a day at The Smart Cube . Monday to Friday, you are down a whirlwind of discovery and challenge. You would be learning everyday.

There is no fixed time to come to office, and the warm smile you get from Jennifer as you walk into the reception starts any TSCite's day on a perfect note. If it's your birthday, you will probably walk into balloons and flowers on your desk. And that's not all! Each day brings its own challenges, setbacks and successes. Some days stretch your research skills and some test your analytical capabilities to the limit. Some days, you just have to extend a helping hand to someone who is having a bad day. In toto, there is never a dull day.

Depending on what project you are working on and where that project has reached in its life cycle, you could be deciphering project briefs or brainstorming with your team. You could be analyzing the Latin American nickel market, engaging the finance director of a Fortune-500 company in a tête-à-tête, conducting an interview with investor relations of an Australian bank, tearing into a 10K filing, running a regression model or tracking commodity indices.

On one day you may want to pull your hair out if no industry-specific statistics are available for a niche market and the very next day you could be proud of yourself for modeling future growth rates. Another day you could be battling with the formatting of a hundred page report. There are days when you could do everything right and still reach nowhere and there are days when you could find one data point that works like magic. There are days when you feel like a million dollars. And then they are days when you feel even better. It's the whole cycle of self-discovery in TSC that helps you find strengths and convictions you never thought you had.

Work is interspersed with coffee breaks, cigarette breaks and walks to the nearby store for chocolates, cookies, cokes and snacks but lunch is the numero uno stress buster - an ideal time to recharge the gray cells and indulge in some juicy office gossip. Some slip away to the gym, the nearest pool or to a jazz class, preferring to work late into the night. However, client work never takes a back seat. Deadlines, internal or final, are sacrosanct. You will get to test your endurance levels on a crunched deadline, and will be pleasantly surprised at your reservoir of energy.
